Each meal you pack, fund and pray over equips FMSC partners to do transformative work around the world. Hunger relief is usually just part of what our partners do — but food is the foundation for so much more.

HOW WE TALK ABOUT HUNGER

Hunger

is a general term indicating the discomfort or pain caused by a lack of food. It encompasses a range of conditions from mild discomfort to more prolonged periods of insufficient food intake. People experiencing hunger may still be able to consume some food, even if it's inadequate to meet their nutritional needs.

Starvation

is a severe and prolonged form of hunger where the body does not receive enough nutrients and energy to sustain basic physiological functions. It occurs when food deprivation is extreme and sustained over an extended period, leading to significant weight loss, organ failure and — ultimately — death if not addressed.

Haiti | Caribbean

3 million children in Haiti are currently in danger of starvation.

Our partners in Haiti are reporting the worst situation they’ve ever seen. Waves of recent protests amid ongoing violence exacerbate the situation. Food access has been effectively cut off for many communities, sending hunger levels to staggering levels.

In some areas around Port-au-Prince, 97% of households are experiencing severe hunger. Nearly half the country survives on just one meal every day.

Hunger is a notorious breeding ground for instability — and many experts say that starvation is one of the biggest obstacles between Haiti and peace.

For the protection of our partners and the people they serve, we are not currently sharing any identifying details for FMSC distribution partners in Haiti.
