Stories of Feeding God's Children Hungry in Body & Spirit
“I have always found more joy in giving when I did not expect anything in return.” – S. Truett Cathy, Chick-fil-A founder
The Chick-fil-A just down the road from Feed My Starving Children’s headquarters has been a huge supporter of feeding kids around the world ever since the location opened a few years ago.
The company is committed to giving back. The ethos is that everyone's job at Chick-fil-A is to serve.
“No matter our title or job description, our reason for coming to work is to generously share our time and talents,” the company’s website reads. “Whether it's treating customers like friends, or serving our communities like neighbors, we believe kindness is a higher calling.”
And this is true of Chick-fil-A’s Northtown location. Through various initiatives like cookie sales, Chick-fil-A Northtown has given $5,591.97 in monetary donations, equaling 28,185 meals and feeding 77 children a daily meal for an entire year. And they don’t plan on stopping any time soon.
We talked to Collin, the marketing manager Chick-fil-A Northtown to hear firsthand about this branch’s involvement with FMSC.
How did you first hear about FMSC?
When I moved to Minnesota five years ago, I heard about FMSC’s impact and its prominence in the community during my time in college. I have volunteered at FMSC several times since then and every time it is not only a fun experience but a touching one, knowing the impact I can have around the world in just a short couple of hours.
What grabbed your heart about the mission?
FMSC’s mission to “feed God’s starving children hungry in body and spirit” aligns with my personal mission to serve those in need. I am passionate about food; the physical, relational and spiritual effect. FMSC’s focus on feeding the hungry grabbed me because I could serve through food. God is glorified when we “care for the least of these.”
What a great way to fight for a passion of God’s heart by feeding and providing for starving children, those truly in need of food.
How did you think to incorporate our mission into the mission of Chick-fil-A?
Chick-fil-A is all about glorifying God and influencing the community around us through serving. I find a similar connection with FMSC in that we are both using food as a vehicle to feed people, with an underlying purpose of making an impact on both the body and the spirit and serving those in need.
Our desire to not only have an impact on the community around us, but also those around the world. It makes sense to use our food as a vehicle to provide food. It comes full circle.
