Stories of Feeding God's Children Hungry in Body & Spirit
“FMSC exists to turn the ache a mother feels when she can’t feed her hungry children into HOPE. This is our goal for all mothers.” – Mark Crea, executive director/CEO
Many mothers around the world don’t have food for their children. Sometimes, with the little food they have, they have to decide which of their children they will feed. These mothers face these difficult decisions every single day, often sending their children to bed hungry.
Every day at Feed My Starving Children, we celebrate the steadfast love these mothers have for their children. And we pray that the day will come that no mother has to face this heartache.
Thai-Burma Border
Hello my name is Nawseemoo. I have four children. My family are poor and must work for foods every day. When we work and gave us money we buy food for our kids. We do not have land in Thailand. We are internally displaced people. Now I live in the border area of Thailand and Burma. Because of the fighting we fled away from our homeland in Burma.
In my life I feed my children by burning charcoal and sell it. But the income is not enough. I am so happy that I have MannaPack for my family.
My children love to eat it and we eat every day. My husband is not strong in health also so it is a way that I got blessing. I believe that God give to me.
I thank you for help me and give food to my family. I hope to have it more in the future.
My name is Mamay. I am 35 years old. I am from Kweelawplo Village. I ran away from my homeland because of the fighting.
I want to safe my life and my family so I came and live in the border area in Thailand. I have two children.
My husband is farmer but we do not have land to farm in Thailand. We just go and labor if they pay us.
I am so happy to have this rice for our food. It is helping my family to grow healthy. I can see my children love to eat and their health is strong. We need it more for our children.
I want to say thank you very much and we want to see you and say thank you face to face.
Sierra Leone
Mary lives in a slum in Sierra Leone. She is married with three children. Her 9-year-old daughter is the only one who is going to school at the moment because she cannot afford to send the other children.
Her husband is a tailor and he doesn’t earn enough money to sustain his family and to send his children to school. Mary sometimes has to go around begging her neighbors for something to eat.
Things are very hard at the moment for Mary's family, especially due to the hard socioeconomic conditions after the Ebola outbreak.
Mary receives MannaPack meals from Salesian Missions on a monthly basis. As a sign of gratitude, she volunteers with the parish.
The support she receives from MannaPack meals gives her the chance to feed her children well and to use the small income from her husband to pay school fees of the only daughter who is attending school.
El Salvador
Every day, Rosibel saw her son, Francisco, become more and more sick. Everyone around was noticing as well.
“Some people told me that he was too small, that he didn’t have the right height and that he would get malnourished! He looked so serious… he never smiled. It was a desperate situation,” said Rosibel. “I thought he would not make it, even more when he got pneumonia.”
But hope comes when you need it the most, our partner SAHF/FUSAL said, because they found Rosibel and were able to bring MannaPack meals to her and her baby.
Jamaica
Kimeisha lives with her 3 daughters in a two-bedroom house that she shares with her brother. She sought refuge with her brother after escaping domestic violence.
“I beg food or money from strangers to buy food most times…anything that I can get to help us. Sometimes, I rely on my neighbor who will share anything she has, which is not much, with me and my children. Outside of that, I try not to bother anyone else because they just use it to embarrass me. When this happens, I cry because I have no other choice but to beg. Sometimes I feel as though I am going to lose my mind when I realize I have no food for my kids,” she said.
She has been searching for steady employment and hopes to one day be able to provide a comfortable life for her daughters because she doesn’t want them to live the life she is living.
I am grateful and thankful. I didn’t know what I was going to cook for dinner today. The MannaPack Rice came right on time. What I love is that even though I have no meat to go along with it, we are not missing out on any nutrients. Thank you and I hope you will continue the good work. God bless you!”
