Each meal you pack, fund and pray over equips FMSC partners to do transformative work around the world. Hunger relief is usually just part of what our partners do — but food is the foundation for so much more.

Contributing factors to hunger: Sensitive countries

FMSC defines sensitive countries as countries with high risk / high needs, internally displaced persons, refugees and places experiencing / recovering from natural or man-made disasters. Persecution and conflict sharply increase hunger. These countries are often in particularly precarious positions because they significantly restrict outside influence and aid.

In sensitive countries, humanitarian aid is fragile. Critical, lifesaving work like food distribution is often the only reason that local officials will allow FMSC distribution partners to continue their ministry.

Estimated internally displaced population: 4.5 million (UN)

More than half the total Yemeni population doesn’t know when — or if — they’ll eat again, making the situation in Yemen one of the most severe humanitarian crises in the world.

FMSC food is used to support our partners’ work in Yemen, including:

Critical supplies to build shelter
Hygiene initiatives
Shoes and clothes

Myanmar | Asia

Estimated internally displaced population: 1.7 million (UN)

Decades of conflict in Myanmar (formerly Burma) have displaced millions of people. Families forced to flee their homes with nothing are left to face starvation and extreme poverty. The ethnic minority Rohingya, in particular, have borne the brunt of violence and human rights violations.

Hunger in Myanmar is driven by political instability, economic challenges and armed conflicts. A February 2021 military coup led to social and political unrest, bringing a severe hit to food production, distribution and affordability.

FMSC food is used to support our partners’ work in Myanmar, including:

Care for refugees and internally displaced people
Rescue and safety programs for victims of human trafficking
Women’s empowerment initiatives
