Stories of Feeding God's Children Hungry in Body & Spirit
"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." – Matthew 5:16
The Tadros brothers are well on their way to their goal of feeding a village. They held their third annual lemonade stand this summer and raised $2,387 to feed kids.
That is 9,945 meals and has the potential to feed 27 kids every day for an entire year. They have raised $5,373 in the three years they have held the lemonade stand.
And the effort is so much more than a lemonade stand. The family puts on a big neighborhood party. In addition to selling lemonade, they set up a bounce house and basketball hoops and the local fire department comes out for truck rides.
“We were afraid the weather would interfere with our fundraiser this year as the heat index was expected to reach 110 degrees, but this didn’t stop our family and friends,” dad Abdullah said. “We had the biggest turnout and highest amount raised in our three years!”
The family lives about 35 miles from the nearest Feed My Starving Children packing site so one of the coolest things about their efforts is that they have introduced people to Feed My Starving Children who have never heard of it. This year, they were able to attend the FMSC Annual Gala on behalf of their church, St. Mary’s Antiochian Orthodox Church.
“This gave our children great perspective on what their effort really means,” Abdullah said.
'Lemonade and Fellowship'
Two children in particular inspired the Tadros family this year. Sofia, 7, donated her entire piggy bank that amounted to a little more than $20, and her brother Nicholas, 9, did the same with a few extra bucks he found “laying around their home.”
“It’s an awesome feeling to see how lemonade and fellowship can make an impact on hunger and inspire people to do great things, like kids donating their entire piggy bank,” Abdullah said.
Some family and friends have even asked if they have set a date for next year so they can plan their summer vacation around it.
