When we first met Benareta and her baby great-granddaughter, the baby appeared lifeless. At just two years old, she was so frail that she couldn’t sit or stand on her own. Benareta, despite her love and care, struggled to provide nutritious food for the baby. Her great-granddaughter was malnourished, becoming weaker and weaker by the day. In fact, the situation was so dire that Benareta had not even given her a name, believing that the baby would not make it. However, through the grace of God and the support of you and our partners, food became available. 

Our incredible partner African Children Today was right there in Benareta’s community where food is needed. Benareta was able to access MannaPack® meals, which not only allowed her to feed her great-granddaughter, but also brought hope into their lives. With this newfound hope, Benareta felt inspired to believe in her great-granddaughter’s future and finally chose a name for her: Jascent. It was a turning post, one that reminded us of the miraculous power of love, care and community in the face of adversity.

"Jascent, when we first met her, right in this place, she was so weak she couldn't stand. She didn't have hair, she had a bloated stomach, her skin was so rough,” African Children Today Programs Director Richard Mutaawe said. “We started immediately feeding her Feed My Starving Children food and look now! What a beautiful young woman. Everything started with Feed My Starving Children food."

“I believe God exists,” Benareta said. “He remembered me and my children and brought life to us through this food.”
