Hunger Action Month 2026: 5 ways to make a difference

September is Hunger Action Month. Your support for Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) goes a long way toward Hunger Action Month’s goal: to feed hungry people.

FMSC is dedicated to feeding kids through donated volunteer-packed MannaPack® meals which have been distributed to over 110 countries since our founding in 1987. Hunger Action Month reminds us that no one should go hungry and that each of us can make a difference.

Here are five ways you can take action for Hunger Action Month:

1. Volunteer

Volunteer to pack food at FMSC to do community service during Hunger Action Month.

Ages 5 and up of all abilities can make an impact on global hunger by visiting FMSC MobilePackTM events or our permanent packing facilities. Becoming a food packing volunteer is as simple as committing 90–120 minutes to making a difference.

  • Make National Hunger Action Month even more special by going above and beyond with your volunteer work: Organize a group volunteer session with your coworkers, extended family, scout troop, sports team or club.

2. Give

When you give to FMSC, you give food to kids around the world. $106 can feed a child a daily meal for an entire year. That’s only 29₵ a meal.

FMSC doesn’t accept government grants, and our meals are completely funded by donations. With Charity Navigator’s highest 4-star rating for 20 years, FMSC meets the highest standards for nonprofit transparency.

  • Get others involved: Start a fundraiser as a business or individual so you can spread the word about child hunger and fund even more meals.

3. Advocate

You don’t need a platform to make your voice heard — just passion.

Take action this Hunger Action Month and spread awareness about the widespread issue of global hunger to whoever is in your circles. See if your church will add a message about FMSC to the bulletin. Share a FMSC Facebook or Instagram post. Post a hairnet selfie to your LinkedIn and tell your network how they can make a difference.

  • An idea to spread the word that’s NOT on social media: Ask to put a flyer up in your workplace breakroom or local coffee shop about how people can volunteer and give lifechanging meals to hungry kids.

4. Shop

Impact families and communities when you shop at FMSC MarketPlaceTM.

From kitchen utensils to toys to jewelry, FMSC MarketPlace goods are all Fair Trade Federation verified, and every purchase directly supports artisans in communities that receive FMSC food. Artisans earn a fair wage for their handcrafted goods, and retail profits fund more meals for kids around the world.

  • Find gifts as unique as they are. FMSC MarketPlace is the go-to place for birthday, anniversary, holiday or “just because” gifts.

5. Pray

Christian nonprofits like us know our missions need the support and power of prayer.

In 2003, the FMSC board rededicated the organization to Christ and prayer became a priority every day. Prayer is now an integral part of everything we do through all areas of our operations. We are always grateful when our supporters pray for us and the kids who will receive our meals.

  • Pray this year’s FMSC promise verse and guiding prayer with us (Ephesians 4:15–16).

Taking action during Hunger Action Month matters

The real purpose behind Hunger Action Month isn’t about how organizations and children’s charities can make a difference, but how you can.

You can make a difference and we need you.

Because the problem of hunger is urgent, especially for children.

The preventable causes of child mortality

Children need to eat to grow, learn and thrive. Without energy and good nutrition, they can become malnourished and ill, even risking starvation and death.

Here’s are some important facts you can share about child hunger:

  • Every year, millions of children die from preventable causes such as pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria and undernutrition.
  • Hunger is still a factor related to nearly half of deaths in children under 5 years old.
  • At least 6,200 children die each day from causes related to undernutrition.
  • Combating malnutrition in all its forms is one of the greatest global health challenges.

FMSC strives to eliminate childhood starvation

With God’s help, FMSC strives to eliminate childhood starvation throughout the world. One reason Hunger Action Month matters is that it encourages nonprofits like us to instill compassion in a generation that hears and responds to the cries of the hungry.

pe begins with nutritious food. FMSC meals are developed by food science and nutrition professionals to supplement common nutritional needs and reduce problems with malnutrition. Good nutrition allows children to reach their full potential.

FMSC donates these meals to our network of food distribution partners around the world. These partners stay with communities for the long haul — using FMSC food to empower them to move from relief to development.

The lifechanging power of food in the fight against hunger

In the nearly 40 years FMSC has been feeding kids, we have seen the lifechanging power of proper, reliable, nutritious meals.

Because supporters like you take action, FMSC meals reach more than 1 million children every day. Hunger Action Day is September 29, but you can take these steps any day of the year!
